Poem - Loyalty
Loyalty
You can't buy loyalty, they say,
I bought it though, the other day
You can’t buy friendships, tried and true
Well just the same, I bought that too.
I made my bid and on the spot
Bought love and faith and a whole lot
Of happiness, so all in all
The purchase price was pretty small
I bought a single trusting heart,
that gave devotion from the start
If you think these things are
NOT FOR SALE
Buy a brown-eyed puppy with a wagging tail
Poem - Sleeping with your Dog
Sleeping with your Dog
Now I lay me down to sleep,
The king-size bed is soft and deep.
I sleep right in the center groove
My human being can hardly move!
I've trapped her legs, she's tucked in tight
And here is where I pass the night
No one disturbs me or dares intrude
Till morning comes and "I want food!"
I sneak up slowly to begin
My nibbles on my human's chin.
She wakes up quickly,
I have sharp teeth-
I'm a puppy, don't you see?
For the morning's here
And it's time to play
I always seem to get my way.
So thank you Lord for giving me
This human person that I see.
The one who hugs and holds me tight
And shares her bed with me at night!
Poem - The Life of a Puppy
The Life of a Puppy
This morning, I woke up & kissed my dad's head.
I peed on the carpet, then went back to bed.
"The life of a puppy, oh my, this is great."
Then I thought about breakfast," I hope it's not late."
Mom took me outside, we walked for a while.
This never fails to make Mama smile.
I sniffed of everything, that we did pass,
I ate something weird - it gave me gas.
I'm sure God loves me, I know that is true.
He gave me so many great things to chew.
Rugs, plants or rocks, I really don't care.
What I truly like best, is Dad's underwear.
That obedience book, was sort of yummy.
Though it didn't sit well on my poor puppy tummy.
I threw up a bit, but that was all right,
When Mom found it later, I was well out of sight.
I made streamers of T. P., while running at full speed.
Mom is pretty quick -- but I was still in the lead.
I flew under the bed, and Mom flew past,
She stopped-shook her head, and breathed,
"You're too fast."
Mama later phoned Daddy, and said, "It was frightening!"
That afternoon, she was sure I'd pooped lightning.
She'd sat at the computer, while I chewed the cord,
She thought I was mad, but I was just bored.
When Mama had enough, couldn't take anymore,
That's when my tushy got shoved out the door.
I love it inside, but outside is best.
Lay in the cool grass, and had a good rest.
That didn't last long, there was too much to do--
Can't quite remember where I hid Daddy's shoe.
I found an old bone, and scratched at a flea,
I watched the dumb squirrels as they jumped in a tree.
I barked at the kids, when they got off the bus.
I can't figure out why this makes Mama fuss.
I barked at the neighbor, I barked at the wind.
I barked and barked, till Mom yelled, "COME IN."
The sun dipped in the west-soon Daddy would come!
I sure love my daddy: we always have fun.
I barked at my daddy, then turned on my charms,
I woo-wooed, "Hello," then jumped in his arms.
Sitting under the table -- it's sooo hard to wait.
Daddy slipped me a goodie right off his plate.
I raced through the house, and scattered my toys,
Ricocheted off the furniture, and made lots of noise.
Mom found her purse - the one I abused.
Daddy let loose a chuckle. Mom asked "Amused??"
I cowered down low, I must be in trouble.
Dad said, "Wasn't MY boy, it must be his double!"
Mom turned off the TV, and said,"Time for bed."
Dad said "Let's go boy," and patted my head.
I got in my spot, between Mom and Dad,
I thought 'bout my day and what fun I had.
Mama kicked out my bone from the covers below,
Then let loose a sigh -- a sigh deep and low.
She gave me a kiss, and snuggled me tight,
And whispered so softly, 'My darling goodnight'.
Poem - When I Got My New Dog
When I Got My New Dog
I asked for strength that I might rear her perfectly;
I was given weakness that I might feed her more treats.
I asked for good health that I might rest easy;
I was given a "special needs" dog that I might know nurturing.
I asked for an obedient dog that I might feel proud;
I was given stubbornness that I might feel humble.
I asked for compliance that I might feel masterful;
I was given a clown that I might laugh.
I asked for a companion that I might not feel lonely;
I was given a best friend that I would feel loved.
I got nothing I asked for,
But everything that I needed
Most Popular Dawg Names - 2008
The most popular pet names of 2008
(and most unusual)

Sure, a list of most popular baby names is always a hit, but who can resist a list of the most popular dog and cat names -- or the quirkiest pet names?
For the second year in a row, Buddy is the No. 1 name among Petfinder's 145,242 adoptable dogs, with Max coming in again as No. 2.
Of the 140,269 cats on Petfinder, the No. 1 name is Lucy, just barely beating Molly, which jumped from No. 10 to the No. 2 slot this year. See the full lists below.
As for unusual pet names, they certainly grab the attention of folks looking to adopt. In fact, they sometimes help get our furry friends into homes even faster. One Petfinder member, Forever Home Rescue New England in Walpole, MA, had trouble finding a home for a dog named Buck. After they changed his name to Joe the Plumber during election season, more people began viewing his picture and he was quickly adopted.
A "very sad-looking dog" named Woe Izmee and a family of cats dubbed Domino, Ditto, Etcetera, And-so-on and And-so-forth ranked highest in originality in our survey of more than 12,000 shelters and rescue groups in the Petfinder network.

Top 10 Dawg Breeds for 2008
Top Dawg Breeds for 2008
Each year, the American Kennel Club announces their "Most Popular Breeds" of dog. Some of these dog breeds return to the list year after year, while others are surprisingly new contenders. The list is based on the top dawgs for 2008.
1. Labrador Retriever
For years the most popular dog breed of them all, Labrador Retrievers are friendly, lovable, smart and great with kids.
2. Golden Retriever
Right next to the Labrador Retrievers you'll find the Golden Retrievers which are also true American family dogs. These large dogs are extremely kind and gentle by nature and love playing with people and their toys. A large breed dawg that can grow to 90+ pounds, the Golden needs lots of space to run and play!
3. Yorkshire Terrier
Yorkshire Terriers, also referred to as "Yorkies" f, are small and mightyl. These lovable little pooches are very energetic and very protective with great loyalty to their family. This means that they don't always get along well with strangers and they are not afraid to make that known!
4. German Shepherd Dog
Among the most intelligent and most loyal dog breeds in the world is the German Shepherd Dog. Because of their extreme intelligence and strength it's no wonder they are the dog of choice among the Military and all first responders From rescue to therapy, these wonderful creatures know how to get the job done, but they don’t have to be “all business. They make great pets as long as you have room in your home for a large, lovable dog. And be sure you train your shepherd or your shepherd will train you!
5. Beagle
The Beagle has been poplar in American households ever since Snoopy hit the comic strips. Once raised as hunting dogs, this medium sized dawg is strong for its size. While the beagle may by nature have an aggressive hunter attitude, this dog is also kind and gentle and loves families.
6. Dachshund
Dachshunds, also known as "wiener dogs' have also been a favorite among adults and children alike because of their cute, unique body shape. With a long body and short legs it may look like they can't run fast but don't let their appearance fool you. They love to run and play and can keep up with the ball. However, Dachshunds can also be quite protective animals and have been known to nip at strangers and other dogs. Train your Dachsie early and don’t let attitude develop.
7. Boxer
The American Kennel Club says that the Boxers play well with children, are extremely loyal and are low maintenance dogs. While they may not be the most intelligent breed, they make up for it by being very energetic and fun-loving. But Boxers are also notoriously head strong, so get control of this pup early on!
8. Poodle
Both standard and miniature size Poodles have long been popular both with the rich and famous and the not so rich and not so famous. They are beautiful, loyal and extremely intelligent dogs which makes them popular among every socio-economic group.
9. Shih Tzu
New to the American Kennel Club's list, the adorable dog with the funny name has been growing in popularity over the last few years. Cute and cuddly, it's no wonder that the Shih Tzu is also popular in Hollywood making it into the homes of many famous celebrities. You don't have to be rich to own a Shih Tzu as they make great companions to the young and old. They are full of personality and will keep you smiling, but be prepared for the expense of regular grooming and keep those eyes clean!
10. Miniature Schnauzer
This miniature dog breed just made it onto the list new for 2008 but it's likely that we'll see them on the list again in the future. Miniature Schnauzers are smart, obedient and love to engage in non-aggressive play. They'll play well with children and or chew toys. Originally raised as farm dogs, miniature Schnauzers are energetic dogs that love to be around people.

Today, the American Kennel Club announced their top ten dog breeds for 2007 based on registration statistics of its members...
2007 Most Popular Dogs in the U.S.
1. Labrador Retriever
2. Yorkshire Terrier
3. German Shepherd Dog
4. Golden Retriever
5. Beagle
6. Boxer
7. Dachshund
8. Poodle
9. Shih Tzu
10. Bulldog
For the first time since 1935, the Bulldog has broken into the top 10. The organization says that this breed has recently gained appeal to a very wide range of dog lovers. The Bulldog is both docile and adaptive, and can thrive in small or large homes. It's also one of the few dog breeds to be adopted as a mascot for some sports teams.
The Bulldog was first recognized by the AKC in 1886, just two years after the organization's founding, and was most popular in 1915 when it peaked in 5th place. The breed's popularity ebbed and flowed throughout the mid-20th century, but since hitting a low of 41st place in 1973, its ranking has steadily increased.
The AKC published statistics by cities...
- The Bulldog is most popular in Los Angeles where it is currently ranked 2nd right after the Lab.
- Atlanta, GA did not include the Bulldog in its top 10, despite being the home to University of Georgia's "Bulldogs".
- The Poodle and Dachshund, who each once enjoyed the top spot in Manhattan (2006, 2005 for the Poodle and 2004 for the Dachshund) now share a tie for 3rd place, ousted by America's top choice, the Labrador Retriever.
- Detroit, Knoxville, Miami, Honolulu and Orlando are the only cities that do not have the Labrador Retriever in the top spot. Detroit and Miami favor the German Shepherd, Orlando puts the Yorkie in 1st place, Honolulu the Golden Retriever and Knoxville the Boxer.
- Salt Lake City is the only city to place the Shih Tzu in one of its top two spots. It moved from 3rd in 2006 to 2nd in 2007.
- The only cities to not have the Yorkie on their lists are Buffalo, Milwaukee and Des Moines.
- Des Moines had the most unique list of all 50 cities, considering that it shared only four dogs with the national Top 10.
- The Miniature Schnauzer, which was displaced on the national list this year by the Bulldog, still claims top dog status in Oklahoma City where it ranks 3rd, higher than in any other U.S. city.
- San Francisco and Los Angeles were the only cities in the nation to include the French Bulldog in their Top 10 lists.
Other interesting dog breed preference facts...
- The Miniature Schnauzer was bumped off the Top 10 list in 2007 to make room for the Bulldog.
- The Yorkshire Terrier held steady in 2nd place, after making news last year by displacing the Golden Retriever and German Shepherd.
- The Havanese, a small dog with a coat type that is a good choice for people with allergies, has enjoyed the greatest surge in popularity since 1997, increasing 994%. It now ranks as the 37th most popular breed.
- Other small dogs (under 20 lbs.) that have gained popularity in the past decade include the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (+406%), the French Bulldog (+404%) and the Brussels Griffon (+157%).
- Large dogs with notable increases are two Swiss breeds -- the Bernese Mountain Dog (+74%) and the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog (+127%) -- as well as the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon (+130%).
- According to the polls, breeds on the decline include the Rottweiler (-81%) and the Dalmatian (-96%). Many breeds of Asian origins are also waning in popularity: Chow Chows (-84%), Pekingese (-79%), Akitas (-76%), Lhasa Apso (-75%), Chinese Shar-Pei (-73%) and Shiba Inu (-38%).
- The Beagle is the only breed that has consistently been included in the Top 10 list since 1915. It reigned as the most popular breed from 1954 to 1959.
- Poodles enjoyed a long reign as the most popular dog for 23 years (1960-1982), the longest any breed has held that position consecutively.
- Cocker Spaniels ranked number one from 1936-1953 (replaced by the Beagle in 1954). Cocker Spaniels made a comeback and were number one again from 1983-1990, making them the dog with the longest total reign in the top spot at 25 years.
- The Toy group has been steadily on the rise since the 1970s, when it made up only 12% of the registry versus 23% today.
The Working group peaked in the 1990's at 17%, most notably due to the Rottweiler being in the Top 10 at that time, including several years in 2nd place

Rub me the right way and watch me respond. I'll be at the front door when you get home from work, wearing only what nature gave me. Kiss me and I'm yours. Call 555-2121 and ask for Daisy.
